During one of the parents meet of my daughter's school, an Intuitive thought came to my mind to offer my services to help the high school school students learn their mathematics skills. Since then for last four years, I have been associated with that school, teaching mathematics EIGHTH LEVEL on three days a week needless to mention voluntarily. I would be sharing my experiences in this blog and shall share my observations. I shall make some suggestions too, for the parents.
The school level arithmetic becomes complex with each standard the student passes. Once a child miss the bus, mathematics becomes a misery!! Before the child understands -MULTIPLICATION is a repetitive addition of same number, a complex DIVISION is introduced. The child is hardly comfortable with these and there comes FRACTIONS. Even Adding them is so complex !! As child progress to the next standards more demons of DECIMALS, PERCENTAGES, RATIOS , PROPORTIONS , NUMBER LINE, Arithmetic operations of negative and positive numbers add troubles to their woos. All this is more miserable for those children who happen to learn all this in the language which is not their mother-tongue.
The result is FEAR FOR MATHEMATICS.
कन्येच्या शाळेच्या पालकसभेमध्ये एका अनामिक क्षणी आठवीच्या विदयार्थांना गणित शिकवावयाला आवडेल असे बोलून गेलो. आणि तेंव्हापासुन म्हणजे गेल्या चार वर्षांपासून मी आठवीचे गणिताचे वर्ग आठवड्यातून तीन दिवस घेतो आहे - अर्थातच सेवा म्हणून. या काळात मला आलेले अनुभव , माझे निरीक्षण , पालकांना सूचना इत्यादी शेअर करण्याच्या उद्देशाने हा ब्लॉग लिहितो आहे .
प्रत्येक यत्ते सोबत अधिकाधिक क्लिष्ट आणि कठीण होत जाणारा विषय म्हणजे गणित. आणि एकदा पटरी सोडली कि गणित शिकण्यातला उत्साह कायस्वरूपी मिटण्याची शक्यताच अधिक ! गुणाकार म्हणजे वारंवार केलेली बेरीज हे कळेस्तोवर भागाकार येतो. हे शिकतोय तोवर अपूर्णांक येतात. त्यांची तर बेरीजही अवघड !! पुढे जातांना गुणोत्तर, प्रमाण, टक्केवारी, संख्यारेषा, घन -ऋण संख्या, त्यांच्या क्रिया जीव नकोस करतात . शिवाय माध्यम मातृभाषेव्यतिरिक्त असेल तर साराच आनंदनीआनंद!!!
